Plastic fittings that connect soft tubing to threaded parts and to each other. Barbed elbows turn a tube line 90°, in nylon 6 for tube IDs from 3/16 to 2 in. or black HDPE from 3/16 to 3/4 in., in packs of 50. Male adapters join a male taper pipe thread (MPT) fitting to flexible tubing, in nylon 6 or black HDPE: they do not corrode, are light and electrically non-conductive, cause no galvanic reaction with metals and are made of materials listed by the FDA. Pipe fitting adapters go from male to female threads. For straight and reducing barbed connectors, see Tubing.

Barbed fitting FAQ

Nylon or HDPE?

Nylon 6 is rated from -40 to 100 °C and black HDPE from -55 to 90 °C; nylon elbows also come in larger sizes, up to 2 in. ID. Check both against the liquid in the line.

Why plastic fittings instead of metal?

They do not corrode, can often be used with fluids that attack metals, are electrically non-conductive and cause no galvanic reaction with metal parts.

Which size do I need?

Match the barb to the tubing's inside diameter, and the thread to the fitting it screws into (MPT is male taper pipe thread).
