Pick a pipettor by volume range first: the smallest range that contains your volume gives the best result. Globe Scientific's adjustable Diamond and Diamond Pro lines cover seven ranges from 0.5–10 µL to 1,000–5,000 µL, with fixed volumes from 5 µL to 5 mL; each ships with a certificate of calibration from an ISO 17025 facility and a recalibration kit. The Diamond Pro adds a soft grip for long sessions; the Diamond Jr. is a half-size fixed pipettor (5 to 100 µL). The RV-Pette dispenses up to 48 steps from one fill. For volumetric pipettes, Bel-Art offers the Pipette Pump II (2, 10 or 25 mL) and the Bel-Bulb, plus the 8-channel Transpette and the 96-channel Vaccu-Pette/96.
Fixed volume when one volume is dispensed all day: there is nothing to dial, so it cannot be set wrong. Adjustable when the volume changes between methods; the Diamond's two-step plunger allows forward and reverse pipetting.
Gravimetrically, under ISO 8655-6: the water a pipette delivers is weighed and converted to volume. Below 20 µL nominal volume the balance must read to 0.001 mg, so small pipettes usually go to a calibration service. See our micropipette guide.
