Three Hanna Instruments digital refractometers, each built for one scale. The sugar refractometer reads 0 to 85% Brix to ±0.2%, with automatic temperature compensation between 10 and 40 °C, and meets the requirements of the food industry. The sodium chloride refractometer gives a choice of salt units, including g/100 g (0 to 28), g/100 mL (0 to 34) and °Baumé, plus specific gravity. The HI96822 seawater refractometer measures natural or artificial seawater in PSU (0 to 50), ppt (0 to 150) and specific gravity. Each reads temperature from 0 to 80 °C and ships with its battery and manual.

Refractometer FAQ

Which refractometer do I need?

Pick the scale your result is reported in: Brix for sugar content, g/100 g or °Baumé for brines and salt, PSU or ppt for seawater. See our digital refractometer guide.

How is temperature handled?

The sugar refractometer compensates automatically between 10 and 40 °C, and every model also reads the sample temperature, from 0 to 80 °C.

How do I calibrate and use one?

Zero it with distilled or deionized water, then read the sample: a drop of at least 100 µL covers the prism. The sugar model reads to 0.1% Brix.
