Air monitoring FAQ

Portable or fixed?

A portable detector goes with the worker, into confined spaces and changing work areas; a fixed transmitter watches one location all the time and drives alarms through a controller. See portable and fixed gas detectors and our fixed gas detector guide.

Bump test or calibration?

A bump test checks that the sensors and alarms respond to gas; a calibration adjusts the readings against a known concentration. Docking stations such as the X-dock and the RKI SDM-03 do both. See our bump test vs calibration guide.

Can I rent a gas detector?

Yes. ERE rents gas detectors, calibrated and tested before shipment, and its repair and calibration service covers fixed and portable gas detectors, with a calibration certificate after every service.
