This hub gathers the equipment used to purge and sample monitoring wells and to sample liquids from drums, tanks and open water. For wells there are water sampling pumps (bladder, peristaltic and 12V submersible) with their controllers, bailers, Waterra inertial pump systems with HDPE and LDPE tubing and tubing actuators, 0.45 µm inline filters for dissolved metals, and Solinst drive-point piezometers. For containers and surface water there are coliwasas, drum thieves, dippers and sub-surface samplers in drum and tank samplers. Fittings, check valves, a bailer retriever and bailer rope round out the range.
Tell us the well diameter and depth, or the container, and your analyte list, and we will recommend a setup.
A bailer is the simplest tool and needs no power. Waterra inertial pump systems use dedicated HDPE or LDPE tubing with a foot valve, worked by hand, with the lever arm or with a powered actuator: the Hydrolift-2 works 2-inch wells to 150–200 ft, and the PowerPack PP1 lifts water from over 60 m. Where your protocol calls for low-flow sampling, use a bladder, peristaltic or 12V submersible pump with a controller; our low-flow sampling guide explains the method.
For dissolved metals, yes: the sample is filtered before analysis to remove suspended particles. Waterra disposable inline filters use a 0.45 µm PES membrane, in a 600 cm² high-turbidity version (FHT-45) and a 300 cm² medium-turbidity version (FMT-45), and ERE's Sampson Filter 45 is a 0.45 micron high-turbidity filter. Follow your lab's and your program's requirements.
Yes, with a passive no-purge sampler such as the HydraSleeve: it is lowered below the target depth, left to equilibrate and fills as it is pulled up through the target zone. No purge water means no purge-water disposal. It suits low-yield or slow-recharge wells and discrete-interval profiling, not high-volume purging; see our HydraSleeve guide.
Use container samplers: coliwasas for layered or unknown waste, drum thieves for clean single-phase liquids, and long-handled dippers or telescopic sub-surface samplers for tanks, lagoons and manholes. For sterile single-use samplers, see liquid sampling devices.
