Rite in the Rain paper takes notes in rain, mud and cold. Choose by binding first: hard cover books for the record you will file, including the Environmental and Geological books; side spiral and top spiral notebooks for quick notes and forms; a soft cover book for the pocket. Then the page pattern: Transit, Level, Field, Metric Field, Journal, Universal, Environmental or Geological. Add the clicker pen, whose pressurized cartridge writes upside down and underwater, a CORDURA cover with pen pockets, the 6-ring binder, the field desk clipboard and printer paper.

Field book FAQ

Does a spiral notebook count as a bound field book?

Often not. The US EPA field logbook procedure asks for bound, paginated books from which pages are never removed, and spiral and loose-leaf formats let pages come out. Check your project's logbook rule before you buy; our field book guide covers it.

Which pen writes on all-weather paper?

A pressurized pen such as the Rite in the Rain clicker pen: 0.9 mm point, rated from -30 °F to 250 °F, writing upside down and underwater to 35 ft.

Can I print on the paper?

Yes, on laser printers and photocopiers; the all-weather sheets are not for inkjet printers.
