ERE manufactures Sampson Platinum filter bags in Canada for liquid filtration in bag filter housings. Felt bags in polypropylene and polyester (1 to 200 micron) trap particles through the depth of the media and hold a lot of dirt. Mesh bags in nylon monofilament (NMO), 1 to 1,200 micron, and polyester multifilament (PEM), 100 to 2,000 micron, give a sharper cut at the surface. POMF high-efficiency bags (0.5 to 25 micron) use layered polypropylene microfiber, and POMB, PSORB and OWS bags remove oil from water.
Most come in the standard sizes #1 to #4 with a plastic or steel ring, so they fit most housings, including Sampson bag filter housings.
Felt bags filter through the depth of the media at a nominal micron rating: they hold more dirt before they need changing and cost less per gallon for general solids removal. Mesh bags filter at the surface at an absolute rating, so the cut point is sharper and more repeatable, and nylon mesh can often be cleaned and reused. Our felt vs mesh guide compares them.
Choose the largest rating that still stops the particles you need to remove: a finer bag than necessary plugs faster. For a target below about 1 micron, or a hard specification, run a bag first to remove the bulk of the solids and a cartridge after it to polish. Our micron rating guide gives starting points by application.
They are the standard dimensions most housings are built around: #1 is 7" x 17", #2 is 7" x 32", #3 is 4" x 8" and #4 is 4" x 15". Order the size your housing takes, with the ring type it needs. Our filter bag size guide covers rings and compatibility.
Polypropylene microfiber attracts non-emulsified oil. POMB bags remove particles and oil, holding up to 7 times their weight in oil depending on viscosity and flow; PSORB bags are designed for flows of 5 to 10 GPM to extract non-emulsified oil; and OWS bags add activated carbon for trace amounts of oil. For larger amounts of oil, start with an oil/water separator.
Usually, yes. Sampson bags are made in the standard sizes, and the mesh bags' ring design adapts to most filter vessels. Send us the housing make and model, or the dimensions and ring of the bag you use now, and we will match it.
