Biological Activity Reaction Test (BART)
15 mL sample volume | Room temp incubation (22°C) | 4-year shelf life (sealed foil pouch) | 9 testers/field kit (N-BART: 7) | Sensitivity: 1 active cell per 15 mL
Bacteria test kits for water and industrial fluids: the Envirogard kit for total coliform and E. coli (1 CFU/100 mL, 24 h), the ColiPlate 96-well count, Droycon BART biological activity testers and the Avalon Bug Check-BF for industrial fluids.

Choose the kit by the sample and the answer you need. The Envirogard bacteria test kit detects total coliform and E. coli in a 100 mL water sample after 24 hours of incubation, down to 1 CFU/100 mL. The ColiPlate uses a 96-well microplate to count coliforms and E. coli from 5 to 5,000 CFU/100 mL without dilution, after 24 hours at 35 °C. BART biological activity reaction testers from Droycon run at room temperature (22 °C) on a 15 mL sample: the time a reaction takes gives a measure of the population and its activity; sealed testers keep four years. Bug Check-BF from Avalon checks metalworking fluids, cooling water, hydraulic fluids and other industrial fluids, 10 tests to a kit.
The Envirogard kit answers whether total coliform and E. coli are present in 100 mL; the ColiPlate gives a count from 5 to 5,000 CFU/100 mL from one plate. Choose the count when you track a trend or compare sources.
For screening and process control, yes; for a regulated drinking-water result, use an accredited laboratory and its method.
For problem bacteria in water systems: the record lists slimes, plugging, discolouration, cloudiness and corrosion. The reaction time indicates how large and active the population is, at room temperature, with no incubator.
