ERE builds activated-carbon air treatment units for remediation sites, plants and labs, each matched to the contaminant. The UltraSorber range covers VOCs, sewage odours and H2S, mercury, ammonia, chlorine, formaldehyde, alcohols, oil mist and fume hood exhaust, in drum-size units. For larger flows, UltraSorber-Air vessels run from 500 to 5,000 cfm with 810 to 8,750 lb of carbon, and the UltraSorber-Air 500 is a 500 cfm vessel for soil vapour extraction off-gas. UltraVent units have a top-mounted blower and install in hours; the AirGuard 1250 treats ambient air up to 12,500 CFM; and a diesel oxidation catalyst cuts diesel particulate.

Remediation systems can be rented or bought across Canada and the USA. Tell us the contaminant, the airflow and the concentration.

Air treatment system FAQ

How does a carbon air treatment unit work?

Contaminated air passes through a bed of activated carbon, which adsorbs VOCs and odour compounds on its internal surface. For gases carbon alone holds poorly, the media is impregnated: sulphur for mercury, potassium hydroxide for H2S and acid gases, phosphoric acid for ammonia. See the media in air filtration media.

How is a unit sized?

By airflow and contaminant load. Flow sets the vessel (from small drum units up to 5,000 cfm in the largest UltraSorber-Air vessel) and the load sets the carbon weight and change-out interval. Send us the airflow, the compounds and their concentrations. Our air scrubber guide compares the technologies.

Can these units treat soil vapour extraction off-gas?

Yes. The UltraSorber-Air 500 is built for VOC removal from soil vapour extraction and other remediation exhaust, and the larger vessels scale the same design up to 5,000 cfm. See remediation equipment for SVE blowers.

What about diesel exhaust?

The diesel oxidation catalyst system uses a precious-metal catalyst on a flow-through core to convert up to 80% or more of the soluble organic fraction and 20 to 50% of total diesel particulate matter.
