UV Systems for Commercial
Luminor commercial UV water treatment: Rainier 5.0 and 6.0 systems in 316L stainless with amalgam lamps, in models for disinfection, low-UVT water, hot water and TOC reduction, with UV intensity sensors and 4–20 mA output on the 6.0, plus the Blackcomb UV rack system.
Commercial UV disinfection is sized on flow, the dose required and the UV transmittance (UVT) of the water. Luminor's Rainier systems use 316L stainless reactors made to ASME standards, with low-pressure amalgam lamps for power density, in four duties: Rainier 6.0 for disinfection, the Rainier-50 for low-UVT water, the Rainier-HW for hot water and the Rainier-TOC for total organic carbon reduction. The 6.0 models carry a 254 nm UV sensor, a 4–20 mA output and a solenoid-ready controller; the 5.0 models have a sensor port for later and a glow plug that shows the lamp is lit. The Blackcomb UV Rack System is a rack-mount version, ready for a UV intensity module. All are quoted.
Commercial UV FAQ
What dose and UVT should I size for?
The usual commercial dose is 30 mJ/cm² at 95% UVT. Cloudy, iron-bearing or high-organic water transmits less UV, so it needs pre-filtration or a system rated for low UVT, such as the Rainier-50. Send the flow rate and the source water UVT; see our commercial UV sizing guide.
What does UV not remove?
Chlorine, dissolved metals, hardness and particles: UV only inactivates microorganisms. Pre-filtration for turbidity and iron protects both the water quality and the lamp sleeve.
Why monitor UV intensity?
A sensor shows that the dose is actually reaching the water as the sleeve fouls or the lamp ages. The Rainier 6.0 displays intensity, sends it over 4–20 mA for remote monitoring, and can close a solenoid valve on an alarm.
