A vortex mixer drives the contents of a tube or plate into a vortex with a small, fast orbit. Choose by what you hold. The Vortex-Genie (500 to 3,200 rpm, 3 to 4 mm orbit) mixes single tubes on a cup head, by touch or on a timer. Heavy-duty vortex mixers run continuously (300 to 2,500 rpm, 3,500 in touch mode), multi-tube vortex mixers take racks of tubes (4.5 kg capacity), and microplate vortex mixers hold two plates. The Cell Disruptor Genie breaks cells with glass beads in up to 12 microtubes of 1.5 or 2.0 mL. All are OHAUS: they show their price and can be ordered online, and heads, racks and holders are under Laboratory Accessories.

Which vortex mixer do I need?

A few single tubes a day: the Vortex-Genie. A bench that vortexes all day: a heavy-duty model rated for continuous duty. Racks of 10 to 29 mm tubes: the multi-tube mixer with a foam rack. Plates: the microplate mixer. See our vortex mixer guide.

Touch, timed or continuous?

Touch for one-tube pulses, timed for repeatable steps, continuous for a rack or a plate. On the heavy-duty and microplate models the top speed is 3,500 rpm in touch mode and 2,500 rpm in continuous mode. If your procedure states a vortex time, choose a digital model with a timer.

Can a vortex mixer go in a cold room?

The Vortex-Genie record states it is compatible with cold rooms and incubators. For the other models, confirm the room conditions with us before you order.
