Air-phase activated carbon | Target: VOCs

KOH-impregnated air-phase activated carbon | Target: acid gases / H₂S

Air-phase activated carbon | Target: ammonia (NH₃)

Coconut-shell activated carbon (air-phase) | 55 lb box

Air-phase activated carbon | Application: air-emission contaminant / TOC removal
Activated carbon adsorbs the gases, vapours and odours that a particle filter lets through, and the right grade depends on the contaminant. ERE's UltraSorber air-phase media: UltraSorber-BC for air-emission contaminants and TOC, UltraSorber-CNS coconut-shell carbon in 55 lb boxes, Voc-Carb for VOCs (a blend of BC and VPP-Carb), MER-Carb sulfur-impregnated for mercury vapour, KOH-Carb impregnated with potassium hydroxide for acid gases and H2S, AMMO-Carb phosphoric-impregnated for ammonia, VPP-Carb, a zeolite with 6% potassium permanganate that oxidizes pollutants, and CannaSorb for cannabis odour and terpenes. They fill ERE's carbon units and vessels; see air treatment systems.
Plain carbon handles VOCs and most odours. Some gases are held poorly by carbon alone, so impregnated grades react with them instead: sulfur for mercury, potassium hydroxide for acid gases and H2S, phosphoric acid for ammonia.
It depends on the airflow, the contaminant and its concentration, and the weight of carbon in the vessel. Send us the concentrations and the airflow, and we will size the fill and estimate the change-out.
Voc-Carb or UltraSorber-BC for general organic odours, KOH-Carb where H2S is the cause, and CannaSorb for cannabis odour. For odour products and filters, see odour control.
