A fall arrest system is a harness, a connector and an anchor, and it is only as strong as its lowest rating. Dynamic Safety harnesses are CSA-certified: Class A fall arrest models such as the Dyna-I Universal, Dyna-Pro and Hybrid Econo, with friction, tongue-buckle or bayonet leg straps, and Class A, P work positioning models such as the B-Compliant, which add side D-rings. Connectors: Dyna-Pak lanyards with an energy absorber, single leg, adjustable or Y-leg, and self-retracting lifelines in Dyneema webbing: 7 ft Type 1, 11 ft and 20 ft Type 2, rated 310 lb.
Class A, fall arrest, is mandatory on every harness; other classes add to it. Class P adds side D-rings for work positioning, but a positioning system alone is not a fall arrest system. Of ERE's ten harness records, six print Class A and four print Class A, P. See our fall arrest harness guide.
No, the lowest rating does. Two harness records print 400 lb (181 kg), while the self-retracting lifelines print 310 lb and the Y-lanyard 132 to 352 lb. Add the worker, clothing and tools, and check every component and the anchor.
By the wearer before every use, and at least once a year by a competent person. Equipment involved in a fall comes out of service, and so does a harness whose label is missing or unreadable; follow the maker's instructions on service life.
