Pick an HVAC filter by MERV rating, depth and the air handler it serves. Sampson HVAC pleated filters are MERV 10 in 1, 2 and 4 in. depths, with 100% synthetic media that does not rely on an electrostatic charge, resists moisture and will not promote microbial growth; they also serve as pre-filters for higher-efficiency filters. The Sampson MERV 13 Green Pleat meets the MERV 13 level that LEED criteria call for, without retrofitting the system, and counts toward LEED points. The Dafco Titan FP is a lightweight rigid filter, high-efficiency per ASHRAE 52.2, built for variable air volume and constant velocity systems and high humidity, and rated UL 900 Class 2. For gases and odours, which particle filters let through, see air filtration and treatment.

HVAC filter FAQ

What does MERV mean?

Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value, from the ASHRAE 52.2 test: the higher the number, the finer the particles the filter captures. MERV 13 captures finer particles than MERV 10.

MERV 10 or MERV 13?

MERV 10 suits general ventilation and pre-filtering; MERV 13 is the level LEED and green building criteria ask for. The Green Pleat reaches it with low resistance to airflow, which keeps fan energy down.

When does a rigid filter make sense?

In variable air volume and constant velocity systems, high humidity, and where the filter must keep its shape at higher airflow: the Titan FP is built for those duties and carries a UL 900 flammability rating.
