A bag filter housing holds one or more filter bags in a pressure vessel and removes solids from process water, wastewater and other liquids. ERE manufactures the Sampson line in Canada: uPVC housings for corrosive liquids (90 or 180 GPM, 45°C maximum), 304/316 stainless steel high-pressure housings (90 or 180 GPM) and multi-bag housings that hold 3, 4 or 6 #2 bags for 540 to 1,080 GPM. For other configurations, ERE also carries Shelco BFS Series multi-bag housings (2 to 6 bags) and A.P. Buck BF Series housings for #1 to #4 bags in stainless or carbon steel.

Sampson uPVC and multi-bag housings accept filter bags of every micron rating and material. Send us your flow rate, fluid and temperature, and we will size the housing.

Bag filter housing FAQ

Single-bag or multi-bag housing?

Size the housing to your flow. A single bag handles moderate flows: Sampson single-bag housings are rated 90 GPM with a #1 bag and 180 GPM with a #2 bag. Above that, a multi-bag housing spreads the flow over several bags, which also lengthens the time between change-outs. Our guide compares single-bag, multi-bag and duplex housings.

Stainless steel or uPVC?

uPVC housings resist corrosion, are light and easy to install, and suit corrosive liquids at moderate temperatures (Sampson uPVC: 45°C maximum). Stainless steel handles higher temperatures and pressures; 316 resists chlorides better than 304, and sanitary finishes are available for food and pharmaceutical use. Check chemical compatibility before you choose; see our uPVC vs stainless steel guide.

Which bag sizes fit which housings?

Industrial filter bags come in four standard sizes: #1 (7" x 17"), #2 (7" x 32"), #3 (4" x 8") and #4 (4" x 15"). Sampson single-bag housings take #1 or #2 bags and Sampson multi-bag housings take #2 bags; A.P. Buck BF Series housings cover all four sizes. Our filter bag size guide covers rings and compatibility.

How do I know when to change the bags?

Watch the pressure drop across the housing. Sampson housings have 1/4" gauge ports on the cover, and pressure gauges are listed as accessories for the high-pressure model; change the bag when the differential pressure reaches the limit set by the bag manufacturer or your procedure.
