    How Does a Portable Landfill Gas Analyzer Work?

    A built-in sample pump draws gas from the well or probe through a filtered inlet line into an internal sensor bench — typically infrared (IR) sensors for CH4 and CO2, and an electrochemical or paramagnetic cell for O2. The analyzer displays live concentrations and, on the GEM5000 and GA5000, calculates derived values (balance gas, flow rate, calorific value) that operators log for each well on every monitoring round.

    Field calibration against a certified span gas is required before each round to keep readings within the tolerances most gas collection permits specify. All three units here support user-performed field calibration rather than requiring a return to the factory.


    What Should You Monitor at a Landfill Gas Well?

    A standard wellfield round checks three things at every extraction well or migration probe:
